We’re excited to welcome you to the first public gathering of know clue: Gateway Experience.
know clue is a sound-led collective exploring the immediate force of sensory experience through music and other material practices, and this event marks our first shared public experiment—bringing those practices together to explore unfamiliar sensations collectively.
We are honored to welcome two artists we deeply respect as our guests: SUGAI KEN and Oyubi.
For us, SUGAI KEN has long been a guiding presence as we collect and explore sound and consider the possibilities of music beyond the dancefloor. His live sets never rely on an abundance of sound. Instead, by reducing each element to its essence, every sound takes on an extraordinary intensity, while even the spaces between them begin to profoundly affect the listener’s senses.
Unlike dance music that overwhelms the body and consciousness through torrents of sound, his music leads the listener into another realm of perception by entirely different means. As you listen closely, you gradually find yourself immersed, losing all sense of time and drifting through space. Only after the final sound has faded do you realize that you had been transported somewhere else.
It is psychedelia emerging from within stillness itself. For this occasion, SUGAI KEN will present a one-hour live set.
We have known Oyubi for many years, both as a close friend and as an artist we deeply respect, and have had the privilege of witnessing his evolution at close range.
Exhilarating sample chops, warped beats that throw the body’s center of gravity off balance, and arrangements that never reveal their next move—his music carries the speed, competitive spirit, playfulness, and urgency of juke and footwork, along with their drive to set the body free on the dancefloor.
Complex as it is, his music never becomes something that exists only in the head. Meticulously refined construction coexists with a raw force that compels the body to move, renewing perception from the feet upward. Even as his work continues to reach audiences around the world, Oyubi remains firmly rooted in the dancefloor and the scenes that sustain it. He will present the current state of that evolution in a ninety-minute DJ set.
SUGAI KEN draws the consciousness outward through stillness; Oyubi liberates the body through speed and movement. Through their distinct approaches, the two will shape a night that unsettles and reawakens the senses.

SUGAI KEN
SUGAI KEN is a track maker whose work centers on a singular style evocative of the Japanese night, playfully electrifying folk legends and local lore from across Japan. He also specializes in recreating the voices of insects and birds using electronic sounds alone, and in recent years has devoted himself to live performances that conjure up ne-shōgatsu — the Japanese New Year spent idly asleep — with floors filled with the aroma of dashi broth, masses of snoring played back in surround sound, sake chugging, and more.
His breakthrough album UkabazUmorezU earned international acclaim, including praise from Pitchfork, while Garden in the Night (An Electronic Re-creation), released on the eminent Japanese label EM Records, brought his music to the attention of dedicated listeners around the world. His releases have repeatedly ranked in the year-end charts of Tokyo’s legendary record shop LOS APSON?, and he has contributed music to Fabriclive (UK). His tracks have appeared in Disclosure’s Boiler Room DJ set and on web radio stations across the globe, and for Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel series he delivered a singularly strange DJ mix that won over Rob Booth.
His 2018 EU tour — 13 shows across six countries, including a sold-out performance at Cafe OTO (UK) — demonstrated the breadth of interest in his work, and he displayed his originality to the fullest throughout. The following year’s EU tour opened at Berghain and included a two-man bill with Tim Hecker, totaling nine shows across seven countries.
In parallel with his solo activities, he takes part in several archival projects devoted to Japan’s deep regional folk performing arts, and has produced audio for the famed Soka Health Center bathhouse and the cosmetics company POLA — diligently continuing his delightfully aberrant range of work. Last year his work was exhibited at the Netherlands Pavilion of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, and this March he completed his fourth EU tour.
His striking artist photo — in which he has aged himself into an old man — follows the Japanese aesthetic sensibility of yatsushi (a deliberate self-effacement or disguise), a concept he holds dear.
A fully darkened sound work of his is currently on view in the anechoic chamber at ICC (NTT InterCommunication Center, Tokyo).
Oyubi (Turining)
Tokyo-based DJ and producer Oyubi launched his career in 2017. Traversing genres such as jazz, EDM, dubstep, drum & bass, and jungle, he has cultivated a distinctive sound centered on ghetto tech and juke/footwork.
He has released music on labels both in Japan and internationally, including the mini-album Earnin It in 2022. With support from renowned artists such as Ben UFO, Objekt, and Kush Jones, Oyubi has garnered global attention amid the renewed wave of interest in juke and footwork across Europe and North America.
In 2025, he embarked on a European tour spanning four countries, including an appearance at Lente Kabinet, organized by Dekmantel, as well as performances in Berlin, London, and Lille. Since then, he has continued to perform across Asia — including Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Taiwan, and Vietnam — while maintaining a strong commitment to his home scene in Tokyo, where he remains an active and driving force.
Currently, he continues to release music on labels such as TREKKIE TRAX and 85acid, among others. Together with longtime collaborator Fetus, he co-runs the label “Turing.” In late 2025, he was selected by leading UK music media outlet Mixmag as one of the “25 Artists to Watch in 2026,” further solidifying his status as an artist to watch in the years ahead.
